January 9, 2012 | In: , ,

Association for Experience, Learning and Training in Youth Work (ELT, Vienna), Donetsk Youth Debate Centre (Donetsk, Ukraine) and Education Initiatives Centre (Lviv, Ukraine) are looking for EVS volunteers for the “Youth in Action” project Europe is more than Football 2012”.

The period of the service is May 2nd – July 30th 2011.

TASKS: Volunteers will work with children and teenagers (6-14 years) before, during and after the European Football Championship 2012 in Ukraine in two hosting cities – Donetsk and Lviv, bringing a spirit of international friendship to kids who will hardly have any contacts with international guests and any chances to get to the stadiums or fun-zones but had been waiting for the sport event for several years.

Places of the actions are either school playgrounds or public parks where lots of young people gather. The areas of operation will be those with disadvantaged kids, more away from the city centre.

The volunteers will offer what generally is called “socio-cultural animation (or “playwork”). Playing several different types of games with the kids, according to the kids wishes and the practical possibilities and skills they have. Football can, but does not have to be a part of that.

Volunteers will work in small groups of 3-4 people always together with local young volunteers. All volunteers will work directly with children at least 5 days per week at least 4 hours per day.

CRITERIA: Future volunteers should be legal residents of Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey (according to the rules of YiA program). They should be ready to work with kids and teenagers (6-14) and carry out outdoor sport/game activities; have basic English or Russian/Ukrainian language skills. More mature candidates with some experience to live on their own are prefered, because realities of Ukraine might be different to realities where the volunteer lived before; the Volunteer should be aware of lack of comfort s/he may face during his or her project here. Volunteer should be independent and able to organize his/her time but being able to work in a team. The Volunteer will get all the necessary support from staff of the hosting organisations.

All candidates are required to fill in the application form (availbe after asking to evs@studentplus.ro) and sent it to evs.euro2012@gmail.com
