EVS: Taking part in a multi cultural social therapeutic community

November 9, 2012 | In: , ,

Solborg, Norway is a multi-cultural social therapeutic community for disabled adults and is part of the international network of Camphill villages. Their aim is to create a new form of community life inspired by anthroposophy, together with disabled adults, as a community with an alternative lifestyle based on sustainability in all aspects of life. About sixty people belong to the Solborg community. As a volunteer you will help out in the workshops and take part in the wider community life.

The project, with EI-ref  2010-NO-5, will start in the summer of 2013 until the summer of 2014. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2013.

Tasks: the tasks are twofold. First, are in the workshops where you will support the disabled and help to run it. More specifically you will help out in the farm, weaver, bakery, vegetable garden, forest, herb garden and help with cooking.  Second is living and working in one of the houses and taking part in the wider community life.  These tasks in the house include housekeeping routines like washing the dishes, preparing meals, general cleaning, helping our villagers to keep their rooms clean and help them with bathing and personal hygiene when needed

Project environment: Solborg is situated in the countryside up in the mountains one hour north of Oslo, near the towns of Jevnaker and Hønefoss on the northern edge of the Nordmarka, an area of wilderness which provides opportunities for skiing and other outdoor activities. Solborg is surrounded by beautiful nature, but at the same time easily accessible by bus.

Selection criteria: You should fill in an application form. It is not necessary to have previous experience with people with special needs. They want to focus on what you are willing to learn rather than what you already can.  As Solborg welcome people from any cultural background, without any discrimination based on race, religion, gender or sexual orientation, they expect the volunteers to respect their anthroposophic and Christian background too.
