EVS Volunteer needed for project in School for Peace and Monastery (Netherlands)

Hosting organisation School for Peace Location: Egmond-Binnen, Netherlands is looking for 2 EVS volunteers for project with EI. Ref. 2010-NL-34. Date for first activities is 1st October 2012 and will run until 31st July 2013.

The Lioba School for Peace is an outstanding meeting-place for young people between 18 and 30 years of age. During a period of 10 months (from October –July) volunteer will be together with another EVS-assistant in the Lioba School for Peace.

Position of EVS volunteer will be Fellow-worker in the Lioba School for Peace.  Guest groups will always stay in the School for a couple of days where they work on themes about spirituality and peace. You will live and work on the grounds of a Benedictine monastery, where the School has a wing of its own.

In main lines a working-week for the volunteers looks as follows: 1 day: participation in the programs and project-development of peace projects. 1 day: maintenance of the buildings/gardens, working in the kitchen of the monastery. 1 day: assisting in a monastic handicraft. 1 day: collaboration in an external peace focused organization.

An important part of your work is working with and for the guests of the School for Peace. You will have an opportunity to assist in setting up different projects in the School for Peace. Another important part of your work is working in the monastery. You will assist in a monastic handicraft, have a cooking day in the big kitchen and you will assist in the maintenance of the buildings/gardens. In short: you begin to work in all kinds of fields with your own development and that of others.

During EVS-volunteering, s/he will be living on the premises of a Benedictine monastery.

Selection Criteria: Candidate should like to operate in a small team and live inside the area of a monastery (of course with the freedom to go out). S/he should feel responsible when s/he receive a task and  is able to work on your own and in a team. Candidate should like to (learn to) talk and think about spiritual life. Volunteer should be able to respect the silent lifestyle of the community and combine it in your own way. S/he should like to take initiative but can also let things go.

We will select 6 to 10 volunteers and will arrange a personal skypemeeting with them. After these meetings we will choose the 2 volunteers. – Everybody will receive a confirmation and everybody who is not chosen will receive an honest reaction.

Interested? Volunteers are asked to write a digital motivation in which they answer to the profiles and the proposed activities. How do these points fit in their character.

Of course we understand that not all the written points come together in one person. So we are also open to surprises.

When we receive more requests we will choose on the following points: attraction of the motivation letter, mix of characters and cultural/spiritual backgrounds.
